2025 Annual Open Art Awards Exhibition Judged by Ken Knight
BEST IN SHOW Winner: Suzy Strout – Marbles 2
This is a really compelling painting. The geometry is intriguing – half the painting is divided equally by complementary colours – orange and blue. The marbles appear to float defying gravity, yet ironically, they are being grounded by the portrayal of shadows. I found this painting to be completely original and brave in conception. It can be enjoyed looking at it from either a two dimensional or three-dimensional perspective. While the painting has an obvious reference to marbles, the picture plane could be interpreted both from a representational and non-representational perspective.
